Crossroads Care started in 1973, named after the long-running soap opera ‘Crossroads’. The soap featured a storyline that involved Meg Richardson, caring at home for her disabled son Sandy this provoked interest from real life Carers, who highlighted the lack of support for unpaid people looking after their loved ones.
As a direct result, in 1974 broadcasters ATV donated £10,000 to set up the first Crossroads scheme in Rugby to support Carers and their families.
Crossroads Care Staffordshire was set up in July 1994 and we began supporting Carers in Stoke On Trent and Staffordshire with respite breaks. In 2012, Crossroads Care Staffordshire affiliated with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers to become a network partner of The Carers Trust and we are now a part of a network of locally based partners who support carers in their homes through the provision of replacement care, and in the community with information, advice, emotional support, hands on practical help and access to much needed breaks.
